Notice of School Calendar Changes Due to Snow Days
After another blast from Mother Nature this winter, we were forced to close school on seven different occasions this school year. Since the State allows exemption for only six weather related cancelations, we are making the following changes to our 2014-15 school calendar:

  • April 24, 2015 – Will now be a full day of school. It had previously been scheduled as a half day for students.

  • June 5, 2015 – Will now be the last day of school for students and will be scheduled as a half day. Thursday, June 4, 2015 had previously been scheduled as the final day of school. It will remain a half day for students.

LEA Scholarships Available

The Lakeshore Education Association (LEA) enthusiastically supports special interests of our students through a scholarship program.  One $50.00 scholarship will be awarded to one applicant at each elementary school, two $75.000 scholarships will be awarded to two applicants at the middle school, and one $500.00 scholarship awarded to one high school applicant.  So, if there is a summer camp or program that your child would like to attend, please complete the form and return it to the guidance counselor by May 8, 2015. > Hollywood Application

Moving Up To M-STEP! The new Michigan state test for this year is called the M-Step. M-STEP replaces the MEAP test, which was not online and measured the previous state standards. This is the first time all Michigan statewide summative assessments will be offered online. Online assessments can provide deeper, richer, faster assessment results to guide student learning. > More information in Newsletter

New State Assessments ~ Just Around the Corner

The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) replaces the forty year-old Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP), moving the state assessment from the fall to the spring and from paper/pencil administration to an online format.  This change allows student measurement to be based upon current versus prior year learning.

As in previous years, English language arts (reading, writing and listening) and mathematics will be assessed in grades 3-8. Science will be assessed in grades grades 4 and 7, and social studies in grades 5 and 8.

The 11th grade Michigan Merit Examination (MME) consists of ACT Plus Writing (a college entrance exam) and WorkKeys (a work skills assessment) as well as the M-STEP summative assessments which will measure student growth in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.  Beginning in the spring of 2016, the ACT Plus Writing will be replaced by the SAT.

Specific testing dates vary by grade level, with testing occurring between March 3 - June 6.  Please pay special attention to the dates provided by individual buildings to ensure that your child is present, eats a good breakfast, and is rested for the assessments.
