Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Susan Toothman
Welcome to Lakeshore Middle School!
I grew up in Baroda, Michigan and graduated from Lakeshore High School. I was fortunate enough to attend Western Michigan University on a volleyball scholarship and started off my educational journey there as a pre-law major.
After my first year of college, I started coaching club volleyball. It was during that time that I realized I was passionate about teaching young adolescents to do something they did not know how to do, or did not even realize they had the potential to do. The strong correlation between coaching and teaching resulted in me changing my major and earning a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching English and History at the secondary level. I then pursued a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and earned my Administrative Certification.
This year marks my twenty-first year in education. I was a high school English teacher for sixteen years before moving into an administrative role as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. This school year will be my second as the Principal of Lakeshore Middle School.
Outside of work, I am the proud mother of a Lakeshore High School freshman, Alex, and wife to Aaron, Physical Education at Roosevelt Elementary School. We also have a four-year old rescue dog named Ralphie.
I believe in the endless potential of children and believe that our mission here is to help every child blossom in their own unique ways. I look forward to supporting the students, staff, and community of Lakeshore Middle School in achieving this goal.
