Governor Whitmer Signs Executive Order Suspending Face-to-Face Learning at K-12 Schools for Remainder of School Year

Executive Order sets guidelines for remote learning, ensures teachers, school employees will be paid for remainder of school year.

Dear Lakeshore Families and Community,

This morning, Governor Whitmer announced that all Michigan schools will remain closed to students through the end of the 2019-20 school year as a result of increased COVID-19 cases throughout the state. The extension of school closures parallels the Governor’s recent request to extend Michigan's existing state of emergency and new state of disaster by 70 days.

As I noted in my correspondence yesterday, the Governor’s order will raise many questions for our students and their families. We will work over the course of the next several days to examine the order and attached guidelines and do our best to provide answers to questions that will arise as we develop a plan for submission. Please be patient with us as we review these documents and assess what adjustments may need to occur to support both teachers and students as we move forward.
