An Inside Look at the Physical Condition of Lakeshore Public School Buildings

We want  voters to get a closer look at the scope of the work that is covered under the 2023 Lakeshore Public School Bond ballot proposal. Voters are being asked to consider a $19.9 million dollar millage that, if approved, will cover infrastructure, ADA compliant upgrades, and technology updates at every school in the district. Over the next few weeks, we plan to share more information on the areas in need of improvement.

Today our focus is on Hollywood Elementary. The recent heavy rains bring to light the major problems that students, staff, and parents encounter due to that building's deteriorating roof, parking lot, sidewalks, and playground drainage issues.

A district-wide facility assessment was performed to evaluate the physical condition of all existing Lakeshore Public School buildings and sites. LPS staff and Administration were interviewed to discuss facility deficiencies and identify needed improvements. Hollywood Elementary School would receive the following updates through the Bond.

  • Resurface parking lots, drives, and replace deteriorated sidewalks
  • Install storm water drainage at existing playground pavilion
  • Restore play surface areas and walking path at playground
  • Replace original 1958 exterior doors with new thermally efficient doors
  • Replace original 1958 single pane glass with new insulated glass
  • Replace original 1958 interior doors with new doors
  • ADA Upgrades
  • Install new ADA push-button at main entrance
  • Remodel reception counter at main office for ADA compliance
  • Remodel drinking fountains for ADA accessibility
  • Install new ADA grab bars in toilets rooms
  • Install new air conditioning unit at Multipurpose Room
  • Replace original water heater with new water heater and storage tank
  • Purchase some new furnishings & equipment for classrooms
  • Upgrade Instructional Technology Equipment
